Cabbage Poriyal

Here is a cabbage poriyal recipe. Easy to make and very low calorie. This is a popular South Indian cabbage recipe.

3 cup chopped Cabbage (Patta Gobi)
1 cup grated Coconut (Nariyal)
3 Green chillies (Hari mirch)
2 medium sized Onions (Pyaj)
1 tsp Mustard seeds (Rai/Sarson)
1 tsp Red Chilly Powder (Lal Mirch)
1 tsp Cumin seeds (Jeera)
2 tblsp Refined Oil
5 gms Salt (Namak) use as required
1/2 tsp Turmeric Powder (Haldi)


How to make Cabbage Poriyal:

  • Chop the green chillies and the onions.
  • Heat oil in a pan.
  • Add the mustard seeds.
  • When they crackle, add the chopped onions and fry till the onions are light brown in colour.
  • Add the green chillies, turmeric powder, red chilly powder and the cumin seeds.
  • Fry for 2 minutes.
  • Add the shredded cabbage, grated coconut and sprinkle a little water and cook till the water has evaporated and the cabbage is tender.
