Kofta Lajawab

Learn how to make kofta lajawab. An interesting recipe of cheese balls fried and served with tomato gravy.

125 gm cheese mashed
50 gm cornflour
1/2 tsp pepper powder
oil for frying
For the gravy
200 gm tomato (tamatar) pureed
3/4 tsp salt (namak)
250 gm onion (pyaj) grated
1/2 tsp chilli powder
200 gm oil (tel)
3 cm piece ginger (adrak) ground
1/2 tsp garam masala

How to make Kofta Lajawab:

  • Mix mashed cheese with cornflour and pepper.
  • Knead well.
  • Form into walnut sized koftas and deep fry till light brown.
  • Remove and keep aside.
  • To make gravy, heat up oil in a pot and brown onions.
  • Mix in ginger and fry well.
  • Mix in tomatoes turmeric, red chilli and garam masala and fry on low fire till oil separates.
  • Mix in water according to consistency of gravy required.
  • Boil for 5 minutes.
  • Mix in koftas and boil for a further two minutes.
  • Serve hot with breads.
