Learn how to make indian potatoes peas curry. Aloo matar or mattar is a gravy based dish prepared with onion, garlic, fennel seeds, potatoes and peas and finally garnished with coriander leaves.
Potatoes (Aloo) – 4
Peas (Mutter) – 2 Cups
Onions – 1 big
Tomatoes – 2
Fennel Seeds – 1/2 tsp
Garlic – 1 clove
Red Chilly Powder – 1 tsp
Turmeric Powder – 1/2 tsp
Garam Masala Powder – 1/2 tsp
Coriander and Cumin Powder – 11/2 tsp
Salt – to taste
Oil or Ghee – 6 tbsp
Coriander Leaves to garnish – as required
- Peel and chop the potatoes into small cubes. Boil it in salt water for very little time. Pat it dry and deep fry it and keep it aside.
- Grind the onion with the fennel seeds and garlic. Heat the oil or ghee and fry the onion paste till it smells good and it is golden brown. In the mean time, blanch the tomatoes and make the pulp. Add it to the onions and all the spicy powders.
- When the oil separates from the paste, add the peas and salt with required amount of water for the peas to cook.
- When the peas are cooked, add the fried potatoes and stir in for a while. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot with chapatis
