Bread Poriyal

6 slices white bread
1 medium sized chopped onion
1/4 tsp mustard
1/4 tsp urad dhal
a bunch of curry leaves
a small piece of ginger
2 crushed garlic
2 finely chopped tomatoes
1 tsp garam masala powder
8 half cashews
5 chopped green chilies
3 tsp vegetable oil
2 tsp lemon juice
a pinch of turmeric powder
2 tsp chopped cilantro
Salt to taste


How to make Bread Poriyal:
  • Cut the bread into fine pieces.Set aside.
  • In a frying pan heat the oil. Add the mustard seeds, after it pops add urad dhal, chilies, cashews, onions, garlic, and ginger and saute until onions are golden.
  • Add the tomatoes, garam masala powder, turmeric powder, salt and cook until the moisture is evaporated. Add the bread pieces and cilantro, cook, stirring, over medium low heat for 2 minutes.
  • Serve hot with tomato sauce.
