Muttar Mushroom

Muttar mushroom is an all time favourite in the North Indian menu. It is easy and quick to prepare and can be served with rotis or naans.


1-1/2 cups green peas
1 cup sliced mushrooms
1 large onion
1 large tomato
1 tblsp chopped green coriander
2 tblsp butter
salt to taste

For The Masala
4 tblsp grated coconut
2 green chillies
3 flakes of garlic
A small piece of ginger
2 bits of cinnamon
3 cloves
A pinch of turmeric


How to make Muttar Mushroom:
  • Grind all ingredients for the masala to a fine paste.
  • Heat butter in a kadai and fry the finely sliced onion to a golden brown.
  • Add ground masala paste and fry well.
  • Mix in finely chopped tomato, green peas and the sliced mushrooms.
  • Add about 1-1/2 cups of water.
  • Add salt to taste. Allow to simmer on a slow fire till done.
  • Sprinkle the chopped green coriander on the top.
  • Serve hot with chappathies, rotis or puris.
