Rasam Recipe

Here's a delicious recipe of a dish from Andhra Pradesh that you would like to eat with rice and papad. Learn how to make toor dal rasam.



Ingredients:

4 tblsp split red gram lentil (toor dal or arhar dal)
1 tsp salt
1/4 tsp turmeric powder (haldi powder)
2 tsp tamarind pulp (imli ka paste)
4-5 whole black pepper (sabut kali mirch)
1/2 tsp cumin seeds (jeera)
4-5 garlic (lahsun)
1/2 a pinch asafetida (hing)
For Seasoning :
1 tsp oil
1/4 tsp mustard seeds (raai)
8-10 curry leaves (kadipatta)
1/2 a pinch asafetida (hing)

How to make Rasam:
  • Cook split gram lentil (toor dal)with 4 cup water, salt and turmeric powder.
  • When cooked, blend nicely.
  • Grind black pepper,cumin seeds,garlic and asafetida together and keep the mixture aside.
  • Heat oil in a pan. Put mustard seeds, curry leaves and grinded mixture in it and cook.
  • Add cooked lentil to the above and bring to a boil.
  • Add tamarind pulp and again bring to a boil for 1 minute. Remove it from the flame.
  • Serve toor dal rasam along with rice and papad.
